Al Landis, currently serving his first term as a State Senator, represents Ohio’s 31st Senate District, which includes all of Tuscarawas, Wayne and Muskingum Counties and parts of Stark and Guernsey Counties. 

 

Al is a native of Tuscarawas County, having been born and raised in Dover.

 

Prior to serving in public office, Al worked for Greer Steel Company for 33 years, serving as an Inside Sales Representative, a District Representative, and in Sales and Marketing Management.

 

After retiring in 2009, he ran for the Ohio House of Representatives in 2010, going on to serve 4 terms in the Ohio House.

 

During his time representing the 96th House District and later the 98th House District, Al served on a number of key committees including Agriculture & Natural Resources, Commerce & Labor, and Economic Development. He served as Vice Chair of the Armed Forces & Veteran’s Affairs Committee for 4 years and as Chair of the Energy & Natural Resources Committee for 4 years.

 

Al had the honor of serving on the State of Ohio’s Controlling Board for his last 13 months in the House and served as Co-Chair of Energy and Environmental Policy for the National organization, Council of State Governments, for 2 years.

 

Following his 8 years in the Ohio House, Al served as a Tuscarawas County Commissioner for 4 years.

 

Al is a life member of the NRA, a member of the Ohio Farm Bureau, the Tuscarawas County Chamber of Commerce, and serves on Dover Chemical’s CAP team.

 

Al and his wife Debby have 2 adult children and 5 grandchildren.
