Elgin Rogers, Jr. is the State Representative for Ohio House District 42. He was re-elected on November 5th, 2024, to the 42nd House District. He was sworn into office on January 1, 2025, by Ohio Supreme Court Justice Melody J. Stewart Ph.D. Justice Stewart is the first and only African American woman to be elected in the state of Ohio across all eighty-eight (88) counties. Additionally, Justice Stewart is the first African American ever elected to the Ohio Supreme Court. Ohio Supreme Court Justice Melody J. Stewart's last official act as a justice was issuing the oath of office to Representative Elgin Rogers, Jr. 

Representative Rogers is an alumnus of Harvard University Kennedy School: Senior Executives in State and Local Government. His educational training is rooted in American Government & Politics, and management of Urban Government Systems. Elgin credits his educational success to the support of his family, influential teachers, professors, coaches and Fairside community center in Toledo, Ohio. He holds a Master of Arts degree from Indiana University, Bloomington, & a Bachelor of Arts degree from Kent State University in Kent Ohio.

Elgin Rogers, Jr. is an advocate for those fighting the realities of poverty, poor working conditions, health disparities, and hopelessness. Throughout the community Elgin is known for his willingness to help and his ability to address and help solve complex problems. He is knowledgeable, a good listener, committed, and has both the heart, and courage needed to serve Ohioans. 

Representative Rogers began his public service career in education, researching and teaching American Government and Political Science at the collegiate level. He is an advocate for expanding educational opportunities for all. He views education as the foundation that leads to multiple pathways to a healthy and successful life. Representative Rogers continues to champion educational attainment and improving health disparities in his role as a state legislator. In his first full term, he successfully passed multiple bills into law that deal with health, wellness, and economic development. In his second term, Representative Rogers remains committed to improving the lives of Ohioans by reducing the property tax burden, improving educational opportunities, and protecting our democratic way of life through policy and advocacy.

He values education and believes that learning through life experiences helps build unshakable character.  Rep. Rogers remains committed to serving his community by sharing his knowledge and using his experience to uplift others.
